Amari Nelson

Native of United States of America, Earth [body deceased]

Living in the stolen body of an unknown test subject in Lumiir, Iythara

Age: 42 cycles (Iytharan body age estimated)

Amari’s research into bioluminescence made him one of Earth’s leading biologists. Well, he was, until the MurAlde Foundation decided to rip out his spirit and plant it in a new body on Iythara.

This of course caused his original body to explode, but they (incorrectly) assumed he’d be fine with that. MurAlde had always planned to send him back with a new identity after convincing him to help establish a partner lab on Earth. Aldebaran can be very convincing…

Instead, Amari quickly picked up on their sinister goals and ran off into the streets of Lumiir, taking his Babeler and an armful of stolen documents with him. He was eventually spotted by one of the other Test Subjects and given refuge in their hideout.

Initially, Amari believed that one of his bioluminescent experiments must have shifted his mind to an alternate version of reality, meaning nothing that happens on Iythara has any real impact on Earth. He believed that by researching Iythara’s use of bioluminescence, he could find a way to trigger it again and return home.

When he learns that Aer has also been to Earth and the two do in fact exist in the same reality, he spirals into hopeless despair. Eventually, this revelation helps him accept his seemingly impossible reality and devise a plan to return.

Appearance and Mannerisms

Amari’s disheveled appearance reflects his broken state of mind, but his former academic self still shines through in fleeting moments. He’s still learning to control his unfamiliar body, so he’s often frustrated with his own unsteady movements and speech patterns.

Associated Location

Test Subject Hideout and Amari’s Lab

Goal

Return to Earth and save it from MurAlde’s dangerous schemes.

Strengths

His background in biology and chemistry gives him a unique perspective on the chemical reactions in Earth’s bioluminescent creatures, such as fireflies and dinoflagellates. This helps him quickly learn Iythara’s bioluminescent technologies and dissect the processes behind UST.

When he escaped MurAlde, he took the Babeler with him and reprogrammed it to remove the pesky tracking and censoring.

Secrets

Amari initially refuses to accept the vast and chaotic nature of reality. He believes there must be a way to “return” the universe to the familiar and orderly version he knew before.

Once he’s forced to accept that reality is bigger than he’d originally thought, he’s overcome with terror in the knowledge that he’ll never truly be able to protect the people he loves on Earth from the limitless dangers of the universe.
